Look out for the Home Learning sheet which will be given out every Friday. The expectations of homework set in Year 6 is as follows:
- Reading (daily)
- Spellings (daily in preparation for a fortnightly test)
- Multiplication and Division recall (daily in preparation for a weekly test)
- There may be a task to complete at home which relates to a topic we are learning about in class.
We expect full PE kit in every Monday. In winter children should bring track suits, or jogging bottoms and use their school sweatshirts to keep warm. Indoor kit will be needed all year. Trainers may be worn for indoor fitness and games.
Year 6 National End of Key Stage Tests (SATs)
These will take place the week beginning Monday 13th May 2019. Just as any other week, it is vital that every child attends school and arrives punctually. Throughout the year, revision will take place, with more focussed revision during the Spring Term. More information about the testing week will be given nearer to the date.
In June each year, Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to take part in a five day residential visit to The Dare Valley Country Park in South Wales. The Park is located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and is at the southern edge of The Brecon Beacons National Park. The visit enables us to consolidate, in a practical way, a large proportion of the curriculum for Geography and Science through first hand experience. This forms the basis of Year 6 work for the second part of the Summer Term.
The pupils stay in the Dare Valley Country Park Hotel where we have been regular guests for many years. Our children are highly valued visitors and the staff at the Centre feel that nothing is too much trouble for us!
We have a varied, interesting - and exhausting – itinerary! All the children who have attended vote our activities as 100% enjoyable! The itinerary includes exploring the National Showcaves of Wales, hands on science at Techniquest in Cardiff, team building activities and many other activities. There is a link to a section all about this on the class main page.
We have booked the West Sussex cycling proficiency team for the week of Monday 20th May 2019. All Year 6 pupils are invited to attend the week long course (held at school) and there will not be any cost to parents. Pupils will need to provide their own roadworthy bike and wear a cycle helmet. Details will be given nearer to the date.
